Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the legal and illegal trade of people between countries for the purpose of legitimate labor or forced labor. Trafficking persons for means of recruitment, transportation, harboring or transferring of persons using force, coercion, abduction, fraud, and or abuse of ones power, for the purpose of exploitation is illegal. There are also legitimate labor and job opportunities, where employers can sponsor workers to enter the U.S. legally.

Human trafficking is not to be confused with people smuggling, which is when an immigrant pays money to have someone bring them into the U.S. illegally. Women are particularly at risk for sex trafficking. Criminals exploit women, by promising a good job with good pay, they then force the women to be prostitutes. Second to women, children are at high risk for trafficking and adoption scandals. Almost every country in the world is involved in some kind of lucrative business of underground human trafficking.
